How to Choose the Best
Rainwater Tank for You
Choosing the best rainwater tank depends on your needs, space, and local conditions. Here's a practical guide to help you make the right choice:

-
Determine Your Water Usage Needs
Household use: flushing toilets, laundry, showers, or whole-house supply
Garden/irrigation only: watering lawns, plants, or topping up a pool
Emergency supply: for backup in dry conditions or water restrictions
Estimate how many litres per day you'll need.
This will help determine the right tank size.
-
Measure Your Roof Catchment Area
The larger your roof, the more rainwater you can collect. Multiply the square metres of roof area by your average annual rainfall (in mm) to estimate how much water you can harvest.
Example:
100m² roof × 1,000mm rainfall = up to 100,000L/year collected (less some losses)
-
Choose the Right Tank Size
Small (500–5,000L): good for garden use or small spaces
Medium (5,000–10,000L): ideal for larger gardens or partial household use
Large (10,000L+): suitable for full-house supply or rural use
